McDonald's All-American High School Basketball Game

The McDonald's All American Games are recognized as the premier showcase for the top high school basketball talent in the country. Annually, 24 boys and 24 girls are selected from a pool of more than 2,500 nominees nationwide. Check this though, the players will not only become part of the long-standing tradition of the games, but will also raise money for Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Ohio.

This should be a great event. Tune in to ESPN tonight @ 8:00 pm est. to enjoy some of the best talent that the high school level has to offer.

Grand Ledge's Jon Horford Commits to Michigan

Jon Horford (6'9, 210 lb. power forward out of Grand Ledge High School in Grand Ledge, MI.) has verbally committed to the Michigan Wolverines at the start of the 2010-11 basketball season. Horford will bring a front-line presence with his athleticism along with legit size and shot blocking ability. His offensive game is still in development -- as he moves forward expect his offensive abilities to improve.

Horford, the younger brother of Atlanta Hawks forward Al Horford, chose Michigan over Providence and California.

Matt Carlino Opens Up His Recruitment

Matt Carlino (6'3, 195 lb. shooting guard out of Bloomington South High School in Bloomington, IN.) is a member of the 2011 class and has decided to re-open his recruitment process. Carlino, was set to join the Indiana Hoosiers for the 2011-12 basketball season, but has since changed his mind and now the UCLA Bruins seem to be one of his favorites.

E.O. Smith's Tyler Olander Commits To UConn

Tyler Olander (6'9, 215 power forward out of E. O. Smith High School in Storrs, CT.) has decided to stay at home to join the UConn Huskies for the 2010-11 basketball season. Tyler is mobile, athletic, and can finish effectively around the rim. Olander, was also pursued by Florida, Wake Forest, Marquette, Penn State and Providence among others.

Nigerian Big Man Commits to Hoyas

Moses Abraham (6'9, 240 lb. center out of Progressive Christian Academy in Temple Hills, MD.) has verbally committed to Georgetown for the 2010-11 basketball season. On the defensive end is where Abraham does his damage by blocking and altering shoots, as well as cleaning up the defensive and offensive boards. Tennessee, Indiana, and Maryland also showed interest in the Big Fella.

Treg Setty Commits to Southern Illinois

Treg Setty (6'8, 205 small forward out of Mason County High School in Maysville, KY.) has verbally committed to Southern Illinois University for the 2011-12 basketball season. Setty has good skills, handles the ball extremely well, and his passing and shooting skills are second to none for a player his size. Setty also had offers from Miami of Ohio and Ohio University.

Mississippi Adds A 2011 Shooting Guard

Ladarius White (6'5, 175 lb. shooting guard out of McComb High School in Jackson, MS.) has given a verbal commitment to the Mississippi Rebels for the 2011-12 basketball season. Mississippi State and LSU showed serious interest in White. He averaged 23 pts, 8 boards, and 4 dimes during his Junior season.

Cornell Adds A Scoring Small Forward

Dwight Tarwater (6'5, 185 lb. small forward out of Webb School Of Knoxville in Knoxville, TN.) has given a verbal commitment to Cornell for the 2010-11 basketball season. Tarwater averaged 20 points and 10 rebounds for Webb this season (25-8), which made the state semifinals this season. With those stats -- Tarwater was named Division II-A Mr. Basketball among the schools in his region.

Kentucky Lands A Turkish Star

Enes Kantar (6'10, 240 lb. center out of Stoneridge Prep School in Simi Valley, CA., by way of Turkey) has verbally committed to the Kentucky Wildcats, beginning the 2010-11 season. Kanter originally committed to Washington back in the fall but decided to re-open his recruitment process back up following his season at Stoneridge Prep. Kantar takes up a lot of space in the painted area of the floor. He is able to change several shots and block many others -- he is a great rebounder on both ends of the floor. With time and space he can also shoot the long ball. Kanter has flown under scouts' radar and may be considered one of the best big men in the Class of 2010.

Iowa State Lands JUCO Power Forward

John Wilkins (6'9, 210 lb. power forward out of Southeastern Community College in Iowa, by way of Gary, IN.) has given a verbal commitment to the Iowa State Cyclones for the 2010-11 basketball season. He originally committed to Bradley, but was ruled ineligible to play at SECC in 2009-10 because of his participation on a Belgian pro team 3 years ago. Wilkins is the son of former NBA and pro European player Jeff Wilkins. He grew up in Belgium and graduated from high school there in 2008.

Reddic Is A Ram

Juvonte Reddic (6'10, 215 lb. center out of Quality Education Academy in Winston-Salem, N.C.) has given a verbal commitment to the Virginia Commonwealth Rams for the 2010-11 basketball season. Reddic runs the floor and rebounds extremely well on both ends, he can also change the game with his athletic shot-blocking abilities.

Reddic had offers from Maryland, Oklahoma and James Madison.

Air Jordan Take Flight-White-Varsity Red-Black

The Air Jordan Take Flight is set to drop in October 2010. This is the first Jordan basketball shoe with visible Max Air cushioning.

Hornsby Picks Asheville

Keith Hornsby (6'3, 170 lb. point guard out of Oak Hill Academy by way of Williamsburg, VA.) has committed to the Asheville Bulldogs for the 2011-12 basketball season. Hornsby can flat out shoot the three, but on the D-1 level he is going to have to improve his efforts on the defensive end in order to contribute immediately.

Keith is the son of Grammy Award-winning musician and Williamsburg native Bruce Hornsby.

Tharpe is Headed to Providence

Naadir Tharpe (6'0, 170 lb. point guard out of Brewster Academy in Worcester, MA.) is a member of the 2011 class and has given Providence a verbal commitment for the 2011-12 basketball season. Tharpe is quick, has a nice handle, quick feet and good court vision -- all of the traits needed in a floor general. Tharpe was heavily recruited by Boston College and UNLV, with Arizona, Indiana and West Virginia also showing strong interest.

The AJKO gave the Air Jordan 1 a vintage feel with this design. Look for the white/red and the Chicago Bulls colorway to have an official release on Saturday, March 27th.

World Select Team Announced For 2010 Nike Hoop Summit.

The 2010 World Select Team has been announced for the 13th annual Nike Hoop Summit, the premier annual basketball game featuring many of the world's leading basketball players aged 19-years-old or younger. The 2010 Nike Hoop Summit will take place on Saturday, April 10 (7 p.m. PDT tipoff) at the Rose Garden, in Portland, Oregon.

During last year's Nike Hoop Summit, the World Team secured their first victory since 1998 in the series, rallying in the fourth quarter to beat the USA 97-89 in front of a national television audience and a Nike Hoop Summit record crowd of 11,246, at the Rose Garden.

Rogers Picks Texas State

Stevie Rogers (5'11, 165 lb. point guard out of Choate Rosemary Hall in CT. by way of Houston, TX.) de-committed from Rice to sign with Texas State for the Fall of 2010. After a year in prep school Rogers re-opened his recruitment process, and San Diego, St. John's, Fordham and Northeastern were all showing strong interest. Texas State has a good one in Rogers, he can flat out make plays on the court.

Glaze Is Headed to UNLV

Grandy Glaze (6'6, 230 lb. power forward out of Brampton, Ont., CAN.) is a member of the 2011 recruiting class and has given a verbal committed to UNLV for the Fall of 2011. Glaze runs the floor extremely well and he should be able to play multiple positions in UNLV's style of play.

Notable schools like West Virginia, Florida, Providence, Iowa State, South Florida and Maryland were also showing interest in the big fella.

Duke Adds JUCO Small Forward

Carrick Felix (6'6, 195 lb. small forward out of the College of Southern Idaho in ID., by way of Glendale, AZ.) has given a verbal commitment to Duke for the 2010-11 basketball season, becoming the first junior college player the program has taken under coach Mike Krzyzewski. Felix is a great athlete and he thrives in the open floor -- he should bring Duke some much needed explosiveness from the wing position.

Felix will have three years of eligibility remaining. He was granted a medical redshirt when he suffered a broken wrist in the second game of the 2008-09 season.

Doron Lamb's Decision.

Doron Lamb (6'4, 185 lb. shooting guard out of Laurelton, NY., by way of Oak Hill Academy) is a member of the 2010 recruiting clas. He is set to announce his college decision at the Jordan Brand Classic on April 17th, 2010 at Madison Square Garden.

Chasson Randle (6'1, 161 lb. point guard out of Rock Island High School in Rock Island, IL.) is a member of the 2011 recruiting class and is being looked at by the likes of Illinois, Michigan, Notre Dame, Wisconsin, and Indiana. Not only is he sharp on the court, he's on top of things in the classroom by being ranked academically in the top three of his graduating class.

A Change of Heart?

Luke Cothron (6'8, 205 lb. power forward out of Huntsville, AL. by way of Flora MacDonald Academy in N.C.) is a member of the 2010 recruiting class. Cothron has decided to re-open his recruitment process by reneging on his verbal commitment to N.C. State.

Luke will now consider Kentucky, Florida, Texas A&M, Alabama and Connecticut before the National Signing period begins in April.

Perry Ellis (6'7, 206 lb. power forward out of Wichita Heights High School in Wichita, KS.) is a member of the 2012 class and led Wichita Heights to a Class 6A state championship victory over Blue Valley Northwest, 56-40 on Saturday. Ellis chipped in with 20 pts. and 11 boards.

Perry Ellis is being recruited by the likes of Kansas, Memphis, Kansas State, Kentucky and Oklahoma.

Duke Adds a Small Forward For 2011

Michael Gbinije (6'6, 194 lb. small forward out of Benedictine High School in Richmond, VA.) is a member of the 2011 class and has given Duke a verbal commitment for next Fall. With Gbinije's signing, Duke has an athletic wing man with a sweet stroke that can score. Micheal had offers from more than a dozen schools including Georgetown, Villanova, and Syracuse.

John Bohannon (6'9, 190 lb. center out of Lancaster High School in Lancaster, TX.) is UTEP bound for the 2010-11 basketball season and he provided his team with a lift by compiling a triple double in a 64-56 semifinal victory over Lake Travis last night.

Bohannon finished with 12 pts, 15 boards and 10 blocks.

Wright Commits to Manhattan

Joel Wright (6'6, 205 lb. small forward out of CJEOTO Academy in NJ. by way of Brooklyn, NY.) is originally from Kingston Jamaica and has given a verbal commitment to Manhattan for the 2010-11 season. Wright is extremely quick off the dribble and likes to slash to the basket but can also pop outside and knock down shots. He also has the ability to finish around the basket, often doing so in spectacular ways -- he loves to finish above the rim. Wright also considered Rutgers, Seton Hall, St. John's and Baylor during the recruitment process.

Palsson From Iceland Commits to UM Men's Basketball Team

Haukur Palsson (6'6, 215 lb. small forward out of Montverde Academy in Montverde, FL.) is from Iceland and has made a verbal commitment to the Maryland men's basketball team for the 2010-11 basketball season. He is a complete player and his ability to shoot is outstanding. He also has the ability to play all around the perimeter as well as playing inside. Palsson selected the Terps over Harvard, Central Florida and South Florida.

USC Receives a 2012 Commit

Larry Lewis (6'2, 175 lb. point guard out of Arcadia High School in Scottsdale, AZ.) has verbally committed to USC for the 2012-13 basketball season. Lewis isn't a national commodity yet, but he's known in Arizona as the top guard in the state for the 2012 class.

Brandon Knight (6'3, 183 lb. point guard ouf of Pine Crest School in Coral Springs, FL.) was not able to carry his team to victory, as Pine Crest lost to Tallahassee Rickards by the score of 70-46 in the Class 3A State Championship game. Brandon managed to chip in with 18 pts. to lead his team, and no other Pine Crest player scored in double figures to help Knight end his career with a much deserved championship.

Now that his high school basketball career is finished, Knight (who is uncommitted) can focus in a making one of the most important decisions towards his college basketball career. Expect a decision to come soon as his list features Kentucky, Florida, Connecticut, Kansas and Miami.

Player Spotlight: PF Eric McKinght

Eric McKnight (6'9, 215 lb. power forward out of Princeton Day School in MD. by way of Raleigh, NC.) is a member of the 2010 recruiting class and has yet to commit for the 2010-11 basketball season. McKnight is long, runs the floor well and his strength is his shot-blocking ability. McKnight must develop better hands before he reaches the D-1 level in order to contribute immediately. He is being recruited by the likes of......Maryland, Oklahoma State, Missouri, Virginia Commonwealth University and Memphis to name a few.

Cleveland Melvin (6'9, 195 lb. power forward out of Notre Dame Prep (MA), by way of Baltimore, MD.) is a member of the 2010 class and has re-opened his recruitment process by deciding not to sign a letter of intent with the Connecticut Huskies this Spring. From what we understand here at 5in60.com....Marquette, Pittsburgh, Seton Hall, South Florida, Miami, DePaul, and TCU are possible destinations for Melvin.

Prep Hoops Standout Picks Seton Hall

Jamir Hanner (6'8, 190 lb. power forward out of Nia Prep School (N.J) by way of Philadelphia, PA.) has given an oral commitment Tuesday to play basketball at Seton Hall beginning the 2010-11 season. Hanner can sign a binding national letter of intent April 14, 2010 -- the first day of the regular signing period. Hanner can finish strong around the basket with either hand and is a relentless rebounder on both ends of the floor. Jamir chose Seton Hall over Iowas State, Texas, Oregon State, Minnesota, Boston College, and Charlotte.

Leslie Narrows His Suitors.

C.J. Leslie (6'8, 208 lb. Power Forward out of Word of God Christian Academy, in Holly Springs, NC.) is one of the top uncommitted prospects in the 2010 class. Leslie is expected to choose between N.C State, Kentucky or Florida as he finishes out his senior year of high school.

Josh Selby (6'3, 183 lb. point guard out of Lake Clifton High School in Baltimore, MD.) and his Lake Clifton squad eliminated Lansdowne High in the second round of the playoffs by the score of 63-45 last night (March 2, 2010). Selby led all scorers with 27 pts. and he also chipped in with 12 dimes.

Could the NCAA Tournament Expand to 96 Teams?

The talks of expanding the NCAA Tournament have been going on for roughly four years now, and at this rate it will be a topic of discussion for years to come -- or could it? The talks have been to expand the tournament from 65 teams to 96 teams. The move has been characterized as folding the NIT into the NCAA tournament.

Would the casual fan be as interested in taking on the daunting task of filling out a 96-team bracket in your "office pool"? In your opinion, who would this proposed move really benefit?
