Germany's Giffey Commits To Huskies

Niels Giffey (6'6, 195 lb. small forward out of Alba Berlin in Berlin, Germany, EUR) has verbally committed to the Connecticut Huskies for the 2010-11 basketball season. Giffey can play every position except center and point guard, but UConn envisions him mostly as a shooting guard and small forward. Giffey, who will graduate from high school next week, has a good amount of experience, having played for Alba Berlin, a prestigious youth basketball team, under Henrik Rodl, a former German professional who played for Dean Smith at North Carolina.

Giffey, 19, was also considering Louisville, Michigan, Gonzaga and UCLA. He did not visit any of those schools and flew back to Germany last week. He will return to the States in July or August.
