USA 16U Capture Gold at FIBA Americas



The USA Basketball U16 team left no doubt at the FIBA Americas tournament in Cancun, Mexico, as they ran through the field, while winning the Gold medal after a 104-64 victory over Argentina. The USA U16 team finished the tournament 5-0 -- no team came within 21 points at the final of each of those 5 games.

Winning the FIBA Americas tournament qualified the squad to play in the 2012 FIBA U17 World Championship, which will be held June 29 – July 12, 2012, in Lithuania. Argentina and third place finisher Canada also advanced to the U17 World Championship.

Aaron Gordon of Archbishop Mitty (CA) scored 24 pts. and collected 15 boards in the championship game. Forward Jabari Parker of Simeon (IL) was named the tournament MVP after averaging better than 15 pts. and 6 boards per game during the tournament.
