Darius Smith, the 6'2, 170 lb point guard out of Marshall Metropolitan High School in Chicago, IL., will attend the University of Connecticut this Fall to play basketball for the Huskies, beginning in the 2009-10 season. Smith averaged 23 points, 7 boards, 6 dimes and 7 cookies during his senior season at Marshall. His feet and hands are unbelievably quick and he reacts and specializes in stripping opponents on the dribble or with the ball in their hands. Defensively, he causes a lot of problems on the perimeter with his long arms, and the kid is a fierce competitor. Smith has the knowledge and skills to play either the one or two guard positions. He will likely play the point at the collegiate level for UConn because of the spot left vacant by former senior guard A.J. Price. I look for UConn's uptempo style of play to fit Darius' needs well.
