D.J. Byrd, the 6'5, 200 lb shooting guard out of North Montgomery High School in Crawfordsville, IN., has committed to Purdue University to play basketball for the Boilermakers in the 2009-10 season. D.J. is a good shooter with deep range, I'm talking beyond 22 feet. D.J. does not do much off the dribble but can get by a defender that feels that they can pressure him too close. This kid is a big guard that has the ability to play multiple positions on the floor. As you can see, he already has a Big Ten ready body, and to match that he has good athleticism and he plays hard all of the time. Byrd is a player that should be somewhat familiar with Purdue's basketball program, being from Indiana. Head coach, Matt Painter should feel very fortunate to get a guy of his physical stature that can slide in and fit with what they do on both sides of the ball.
